Crysis 2 is the sequel to Crysis. The game is still in production and will likely to be released late 2010. A leaked EA list of release dates sets Crysis for September 24. It is the first game to use the heavily modified Cryengine 3. The first information was released early February 2010 and is from a German Magazine. In April, Crytek showcased a demo to certain gaming organizations. So far, Crytek has released two teaser trailers[1][2] and two videos of the Nanosuit 2[3][4].

Story

Not much is known about the story of Crysis 2. The game is set in a destroyed New York City in 2023, 3 years after the events of the first Crysis. Since the previous game, the aliens have destroyed many of the large cities of the world including London, Tokyo, and Rio de Janeiro. The US government issued a mandatory evacuation order of New York City and presumably other major cities at the beginning of the invasion. Since the evacuation, New York City is mostly deserted and has been placed under quarantine. A mysterious and hostile government faction known as Crynet Systems still operates within the city. Cevat Yerli has stated that the player stands between them and what they want. Yerli also stated that "you're not supposed to have the suit" when talking about the hostility of Crynet Systems. In one demo level shown to interviewers, you meet with a scientist currently named Nathan Gould and are sent to fight the Crynet Systems soldiers in order to retrieve DNA from a crashed alien ship. In a more recent demo level shown, the player must infiltrate a Crynet Systems base. The player is later captured, but escapes when the aliens attack the Crynet Systems soldiers. The new alien enemies relate to the aliens from Crysis, but have been altered to be more relatable. An example of their altering is that they now have legs, making it easer to see them run for cover, rather than hover around. Tape recordings will reveal parts of the plot, such as how the city was destroyed. Overhearing enemies talk may also give plot-related information.

Gameplay

Crysis 2 will feature the addition of the Nanosuit 2, an upgraded version of the original Nanosuit. The largest change is that there are 2 main modes rather than 4. Each of the two main modes can have sub-modes activated. The suit will have various improvements and can be customized. The HUD changes depending on which of the four different modes is active.

Main modes

  • Infiltration mode: This mode temporarily makes the wearer invisible as well as muffling the sound of footsteps.
  • Armor mode: This mode prevents damage to the wearer's health by draining energy when hurt.

Secondary modes

  • Tactics mode: This mode works similarly to the player's ability to tag objects with binoculars from the first game. It scans the environment for enemy locations and the source of sounds and weapon fire.
  • Power mode: Speed mode and Strength mode were combined due to player feedback.

The game developers stated that there will be more "verticality" to Crysis 2, which is likely because of the skyscrapers throughout New York. The game will have a tighter storyline, but will still retain the sandbox-like nature encompassing a variety of gameplay styles.

The aliens seem to stand on two legs and resemble Predators. The aliens have powerful weapons and seem to have superhuman strength and agility. The hostile third faction seem to be humans wearing some type of armored biohazard suit. They use guns and vehicles like normal humans.
