Crytek has revealed that thanks to its experience with developing Crysis 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, they've learned enough to drastically improve the original Crysis to the point at which the new console version is superior to the 2007 PC version that pushed the limits of users' hardware.

According to Crytek lead level designer Sten Huebler in a Q&A session on MyCrisis, the new version of Crysis benefits from the extra polish the PC version never got a chance to receive.

It's August and, as previously announced, Crytek has now released the CryEngine 3 Software Development Kit. The SDK comes free of charge for everyone to download and use for non-commercial projects. This is the same kit that was used to make Crysis 2 and the same that the commercial licensees use.

Crytek have also put online an extensive CryEngine 3 SDK documentation under the new Crydev domain.

Speaking of Crydev... the legendary Crymod is no more. It has been replaced by Crydev with redirecting to The "new" site does not seem to differ much from its predecessor apart from the logo and some other additions such as the gallery at the bottom.

It looks like after Crysis 2 was fairly successful on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, the original, PC-only Crysis might end up ported to these platforms as well.

A Korean ratings board referencing an Xbox 360 version of the game has been leaked, showing Electronic Arts as the publisher. The ESRB page for the game has also been updated with PS3 and 360 added among the platforms.

Given the original game's high system requirements, which many computers don't meet even today, one has to wonder how the game is going to look when ported to consoles. Any console-only Crysis 2 fans here who can't wait to play the original too?

At Suvudu, you can find another behind the scenes look at the Crysis: Legion novel by Hugo Award-winning author Peter Watts, with more excerpts from the book. This time, aside from information about the Nanosuit, it also delves more into the background of Alcatraz, of which we learn very little in the game itself. Here's a snippet:

Let me tell you about my mother. She was a cunt.
Not always, mind you. Not at first. She was never Parent of the Year material—bit on the judgmental side, that just goes with the whole Bible-belt mindset—but at least she wasn’t a drunk or a methhead. Never hit me. Never forgot me on the luggage carousel. Perfectly decent woman, you know? No complaints, all while I was growing up.
Then the dementia hit, and holy fucking Christ.
She’d turn into a monster. Not full-time, not in the early stages anyway, but sometimes she’d just—snap. Turn into this rabid snarling animal. Course she was getting on by then, and times weren’t great generally. My folks lost most of their…

The Crysis: Legion novel by Hugo Award-winning writer Peter Watts was released simultaneously with the game itself. You can now read a 50-page excerpt from the book, as well as three behind the scenes articles about the Nanosuit 2 - Be Strong, Be Fast, Be Invisible and Be the Ghoul. Watts, a biologist, was also consulted on the science behind the Nanosuit in the game itself.

I very much recommend the book to every Crysis fan - it's not a typical, bland video game adaptation, but it's very well written and contains lots of additional info, including new plot threads, more insight into the character of Alcatraz (who is the primary narrator), and background info about the Crysis world.
